According to the results of the seventh public opinion poll, experts of the Institute have drawn the following conclusions:
1. Political knowledge and political culture of the Ukrainian people are at the rather low level. Despite the fact that about quarter of respondents say that they know more about politics in Ukraine, the research shows that Ukrainians tend to exaggerate their understanding of political processes. For example, one third of respondents are convinced that the president has the same power in solving economic and social issues as the Prime-minister.
2. It is almost impossible to make a conscious choice on the basis of such knowledge level: one quarter of voters will decide for whom to vote during last week before the elections or on the election day (about 9 million of Ukrainians)
3. The connection “life – choice – authority” doesn’t exist in the consciousness of voters. The improvement of people’s lives takes place “not due to the state but in defiance to”. Two thirds of voters are going to vote for the parties and blocs who express their interests partially or not at all.
4. So-called European values are inherent in less then a half of Ukrainian people. Freedom of information matters to 46% of respondents, freedom of movement – to 40% and freedom of entrepreneurship – only to the quarter of Ukrainians.
5. Every sixth voter used to vote for a fee or under pressure. Moreover, residents of Zakarpatye, Bukovina, central oblasts (Poltavska, Cherkasska etc.), Crimea, Dniepropetrivska and Zaporizhska oblasts tend to vote for a fee. And residents of Kharkivska, Dniepropetrivska, Zaporozhska oblasts, Crimea and Northern East of Ukraine used to vote under pressure.
6. One third of Ukrainians accept the fraud during elections. To the question “How do you take fraud during elections?” 6% of respondents gave the answer: “Positively, if it serves state interests”, and 25% of respondents said: “In general, negatively, but I understand that it became a norm of political life in Ukraine”.
7. For the resettlement on third of Ukrainians prefers the EU countries, more than a quarter – Russia, and only 18% - the USA. Among potential emigrants there is an essential share of Donbass, Crimea and Kharkov residents, moreover – for these people the EU countries, Russia and the USA are equally attractive. On the other hand, more than a half of respondents said that they like living in Ukraine. These respondents have a better financial position in comparison to those who gave negative answer, they see perspectives of Ukraine and connect their future with this country. |
